In the small village Nazareth lived a young woman. Her name was Maria. She was engaged with the carpenter Joseph. One day an angel visited Maria and told her that she would get a baby. She should give her child the name Jesus, and he would be he son of god. After some month of the pregnancy, the emperor of the Roman Empire Augustus wanted to count his subjects and commanded that every person has to move to his home town. So Joseph and Maria travelled to Bethlehem, the home town of Joseph. After many hard days, they arrived in Bethlehem. Maria felt that her baby would be born soon, but for her and Joseph it was impossible to find a room in an inn. They had to sleep in a simple shed. There Jesus was born and his parents put him into the hayrick. At the same time shepherds were outside with their flock. Suddenly they were surrounded by glorious light. First they were afraid but the angels talked to them. “Today is a beautiful day, because today our Saviour is born. You will find him in a shed.”, they said and sang to praise god. The shepherds walked to the shed and found the young family. Full of pleasure they returned to their sheep. Far away three wise men were observing the stars. When they saw a very light new star, they remembered an old prophecy about a new king. Together they followed the star, because they wanted to find out the place it is marking. In their luggage they had valuable presents: incense, myrrh and gold. At the end of her journey they arrived in Jerusalem. Jerusalem is close to Bethlehem, but it was the capital of Israel. In Jerusalem reigned king Herodes. When he heard about the prophecy of the new king, he became very afraid that somebody would steal him the throne. Because of this he tried to trick the wise men and said that after they find the new king they should tell him his home, because he would like to praise him too. Finally, the three wise men arrived in Bethlehem and visited Jesus, Maria and Joseph. But on their way back they did not go to Herodes again, because god showed them Herodes bad intentions.
